SEPTEMBER 2024 - FIRST TESTIMONIALS BY 3 DUTCH UPEACE STUDENTS WHO RECEIVED 2024-2025 SCHOLARSHIPS

These three Dutch students qualified for the scholarships provided by Upeace The Hague. They travelled to Costa Rica in August and started their academic studies at Upeace in September. Their first experiences below - NB for privacy reasons we don't mention their names.

So far it is amazing to be here! I am settling in very will, getting to know the other Upeacers and Cuidad Colon. I also got to know D and M and we get along well!! Along with many other Upeacers from all over the world. Last week someone organized a watch party for the debate between Trump and Harris, and people from 12 different countries came to watch it together!

The first course has just finished and I learned a lot from it. I like how the course focussed on learning from the other students from all over the world. We got to know a foundation of all different topics, which provides a good starting point for our next courses. Furthermore I am taking Spanish classes, so hopefully after this year I will be fluent.

I'm doing good! We are almost at the end of the first course already, the UPeace foundation course. So far, it feels like a great open minded culture at the university. We have had interesting discussions about fundamental topics and I made a small start with learning Spanish:)

During the first semester I will take the courses:

Environment, Conflicts & Sustainability
Sustainable Agriculture
Coastal Resources Management

I'm really looking forward to all of them.

Thus far, everything has been really well here and I am adapting slowly to life in Costa Rica.
The university has a lovely atmosphere, the courses are really interesting although the workload is a lot. I have been enjoying exploring the country and participating in various outdoor activities.

So, overall everything is going according to plan!
