Alliance for UPEACE / ANBI status

The legal entity representing UPEACE Centre The Hague is the “Alliance for the University for Peace”, a Dutch support foundation which was created in 2002 to act as the official representative of the University for Peace (UPEACE Costa Rica) in the Netherlands, notably with regards to the Dutch Postcode Lottery which provided funding for the University.

 

In 2012, the “Alliance for UPEACE” set up UPEACE Centre The Hague as a non-profit organisation to represent UPEACE Costa Rica. The Alliance is still the legal entity representing UPEACE Centre The Hague and is recognised by the Dutch tax authorities as an official charity (algemeen nut beogende instelling, ANBI). This entitles the Alliance to charity tax concessions and makes gifts to it tax-deductible.

 

(Board members of UPEACE Centre The Hague do not receive a salary for their work. They are only entitled to reimbursement of their expenses.)
